REQUESTS FOR INFORMATION ACCESS/CORRECTION

The Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (the Act) provides individuals with a right of access to certain records and personal information in the custody and control of the Police.  The purposes of the Act are twofold:

  1. To provide the right of access to information under the control of the Police in accordance with the principles that information should be available to the public, exemptions from this right of access should be limited and specific and decisions on disclosure should be reviewed independently of the institution controlling the information.
  2. To protect the privacy of individuals.
  3. To protect the privacy of individuals.

Individuals may attend in person at the Midland Police Service in order to make a request for information or correction to a record.  Requests can also be submitted in writing, addressed as follows:

Fee Schedule

Under the Act , requests for access or correction to records must be accompanied by a $5.00 Application Fee. Payment can be made by cash, cheque (with appropriate ID), Visa, Mastercard or Interac (Debit) or money order payable to the Midland Police Service, Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (excluding Statutory Holidays), or in the mail by cheque or money order payable to the Midland Police Service. Under the Act , the Midland Police Service has 30 days to respond to a request.

If your request is for personal information, it may be subject to .20 cents per page photocopying charges above the $5.00 application fee.  If your request is for general information, it may be subject to $30.00 per hour search time charge and $30.00 per hour preparation time charge and .20 cents per page photocopying charges above the $5.00 application fee.
