Scam Using Midland Police Name Address & Phone Number

Scam Alert

On Monday April 11th 2016, the Midland Police Service received a report that a Burlington man received a call from a company stating they were from Windows and wanted to gain access to his computer for the purpose of fixing it.

The complainant does not own a computer with a Windows based system and became immediately suspicious. The caller told the complainant that his company works closely with Midland Police Service. The caller provided the proper address and phone number for Midland Police Service.

This is a scam. The Midland Police Service does not work with any third party companies with respect to ANY aspect of Police work.

“The Midland Police Service does not work with any third party companies with respect to any aspect of police investigation that would be calling on our behalf. If we have a concern, or require information from you, we will call you directly and provide a unique incident number that will correspond to your case or the case we are working on. This number is unique to Midland Police Service. If you have any doubt or concern at all, you can contact our service directly or come and see us which will remove all doubt....If anyone receives such a call purporting to be working in conjunction with Midland Police Service, call your local police service right away and report it – it is a scam....”
